Josie Allchin is a Postgraduate Journalism Student at Cardiff University, specialising in magazines. She hopes to successfully complete the course in June 2010, when, despite what those economic forecasters say, somebody will give her a job. Perhaps even one in journalism.
Prior to this, Josie gained an undergraduate degree in Philosophy, also at Cardiff University. She waded her way through thought experiments, got lost in language, metaphysics and Plato’s cave, whilst dabbling in the murky world of student media. By the end of these three years, she left bleary eyed and with more unanswered questions than when she began.
After realising that philosophy has very little use in the day-to-day practicalities of life, Josie embarked on a gap year. Amongst other things, she spent an exhilarating three months in the USA. She learnt to surf and longboard; travelled with 12 other strangers and somehow ended up in the LA Times offices the day after Obama won the election.
At present, Josie is probably throwing her shorthand book across the room or clicking the “similar artists” button on Spotify – a habit that will soon become her demise.
